If you do not read, you do not write, you have to read to know how to write just like baby
has to walk before walk. In this paper I will be showing how and where my Writing and reading comes from called literacy. How I began to interact with reading and writing. Writing a paper is not an easy thing for me because I do not like to write when someone tell me of what to write about. But when I do I use to think a lot at the beginning and ask maybe people or see examples to get an idea. Once I get an idea I start to develop it in the way I can modify inthe way it sounds good to me. The reading is something that I really struggle and happens the same with the writing if it is not of my interest is really hard to me to get focused. I consider myself not a good writer because its hard to me to have a fluidly writing and use words that can fit and sound even more interesting on the essay or paper. Also when I need to prove something for example use quotes or material related with it. So it gets hard to me formulate a good and interesting paragraph. I learned how to read since I was 3 years because my mom took me to the Day Care since I was 2 months old, so there I learned quickly. I started reading the vocals that were posted in the wall, I used to repeat them everyday. Also the teacher gave me a book with a lot of pictures of different things like animals, fruits, etc, with their name where corresponds. They were short words like: Dog, Red, Blue, Dad, Mom, Cat, Cow, Boy, Girl, etc. So, this was my first time interacting with the reading. At the same time I learned how to write while reading. My weakness when I need to write an essay is that before I decide to write it I just make a lot of excuses to avoid write it just like the typical “I will do it tomorrow because I am tired” to mention one. Also when I take a bath I just think of what to write about or how I will develop it because when I am taking a shower my brain works better than any other place, so if I could, I would make my homework while I am taking a shower, I guess it would be the most comfortable place to make any homework. Also I use to write my essays at the night because no one of my family can bother me because all of them are sleeping. Another weakness that I have is that in my room I have a lot of stuff to play if I can say, right by my desk is my guitar that I can spent hours playing it so this is not a good idea look at it in moments like this, also if it is a typed essay even worst because while I am writing or trying to write suddenly the Facebook notifications come out and I tend to check them immediately. I have the bad luck that when I do not do anything nobody text me or message me at the social network but when I am really busy and with few time and just receive a tons of notifications and messages from everyone even people who I do not know so that kind of things makes me crazy and lose what I was trying to write. I relate my writing with a music, first because when you are about to write a song you get very frustrated because you have a certain “riff” but you do not know how to place it in the song or how to develop the whole instrumental. Same happens with the essay, I have an idea but it gets hard to me develop it. Finally when I get the riff I always follow the same steps, create an intro, this needs to sound really good to me so the song could be interesting for the people who will listen to it just like an introduction with the essay, I need a good thesis statement so the reader can feel good and pretend that this will be a good paper. Once I get the intro I go with the verse which could include the lyrics but the verse is the middle of the chorus and the intro so it could have a different rhythm but it keeps the same idea, just like in the essay this step I do not know if it is necessary but I use to write a post introduction, another paragraph that supports and get more details related with the topic. Know comes the chorus that for me is when I play the “feeling” part because is the most important or the best part of the song that sometimes comes with a guitar solo that supports the chorus, same with the content in an essay I usually write the climax of the paper at the content and I include sometimes details that can make the topic even stronger just like the guitar solo in a song.Finally I finish with the outro in the song that it comes a little slow and calm depending the song obviously, but it has to be neat so the listener want to listen to it again, in the conclusion in an essay has to be really good, so basically I support and prove my ideas that I just wrote in the content, and most of the time I try to include a learning phrase, so the reader can go with a new idea in his mind. I have weaknesses I when I read as well. When I was in high school we were assigned to read some chapters of the books or certain readings, I started them to read and five minutes later I gave up and I started doing other thing. I admit that when I passed to take English 3, in this class there are a lot of poems and stories that were hard to me to understand because I was relatively new for the English language that is my second language. I really hate poetry when we are assigned to analyze them, so I always asked for help to a friend of mine next to me. That was how I could beat the poetry in English 3. In my senior year on English 4 we were asked to read old English, if I had problems while reading regular or modern English, the old English was a hell for me. There was the first time I had the “good” but bad idea to avoid reading the texts and just read the summaries of the stories on Internet. It was helpful but not to much because the summaries just tell you what is the story about, in class we discussed about different things like, the appeals, different quotes. Even though it was hard to me to understand that English, I kept reading the summaries first, then read the whole story but now getting an idea of what it is about, in that way I could get more involved with the reading including details. Also we had to write journals everyday, using a quote of the chapter and analyze it. In that way I practiced my writing skills too. Some of the text I read using my method were: Beowulf, Macbeth, Canterbury Tales, Frankenstein, etc. At the end I consider that I learned a lot from them and new ways to write and new words for my reading. But also writing a lot of papers helped me to improve my grammar and write detailed. Like I said at the beginning if you do not read well you can not write well, in my case I am able to write a lot and read few. The best recommendation to become a better reader and writer is: For reading-1)Find the best place and time where you feel comfortable to read. 2)Enjoy your reading, do not think negative, think that there will be something new that you will learn. 3) Try not only reading superficially, trying to analyze the different kind of things, emotions or meanings that the sentences the author is trying to transmit through his text. For Writing-1) Find the best place and time where you feel comfortable to write. 2) Make sure you read and know well what are you going to write about. 3) Take your time while writing. 4)Write as much you can even though the grammar is misspelled and is bad organized, always include all of your ideas. 5) Once you finish it, read it out loud and revise if it sounds good and if your ideas are well chronologically organized. So, the best you can do to become a better reader and writer is being organized with your time, set up and follow the process that you feel you will do better. |

After realizing this project I felt with more self confidence at the time of writing because I know how and when to write better.
My writing process was improved because of the comments provided by the professor and the comments made by the students as well. The reading journals were also good tools that helped me understand better this assignment.
The changes I saw in myself reflected in my writing was that I found what kind of things stops me and the cause of my procrastination, I am more mature in the facto of reading and writing or composing.
The revision process is always important because in this case I thought that everything was right but the classmates and the professor pointed out details that I did not realize, so it is effective because it helps you to build and improve your writing process. In this case the professor pointed out highlighted my organization, because I have good ideas but the were not chronologically right.
I made a really good work even though my grade was not the better, the most important thing was to know the main point of the project that in this case is find out how is your style of writing and behaviors and how you can change that behaviors that may improve your writing.
